"Fortune
and glory, kid. Fortune and glory."
- Indiana
Jones
Often referred
to as the "black sheep" of the Indiana Jones trilogy,
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom had a lot
to live up to as the second Indiana Jones film. After
the tremendous success of Raiders of the Lost Ark,
another Indiana Jones film was inevitable, and Indiana
Jones and the Temple of Doom was the answer.
With Temple of Doom, Lucas wanted to make a darker,
scarier Indiana Jones story, and that he did. And
it is because of the intense Indiana Jones and the Temple
of Doom that we now have the PG-13 rating we have today
- just a small example of Temple of Doom's cultural
impact. Although not as well accepted by critics and
some fans, Temple of Doom gave us some of the most
thrilling action sequences in the entire Indiana Jones series.
But no matter what can be said about Indiana Jones and
the Temple of Doom, no one can deny that it captures
the true essence of action, adventure, thrills and excitement
that we have come to expect from Indiana Jones.
