More DVD Info Plus Young Indy DVDs!
04-29-03 | Posted by Aaron

The Digital Bits released some news concerning the DVD release time, which coincides with our spy report last week.  The DVDs will be released all in one box set, in a four disk set, three disks for the movies, one for the bonus features (containing up to 2 1/2 hours of features), and all the movies will be presented in animorphic widescreen.

More info just came in at TheForce.net, they received info on the Young Indiana Jones DVDs and they're general release date, we well as special features:

LucasFilms plans to release the films in one big shot in 2005 so there are 4 teams of producer/researchers working with editors who are going to create ONE HUNDRED-TWENTY (120) separate mini-docs on the varied historical figures that were portrayed in the series. First up: Teddy Roosevelt. Being created and cut on the Ranch.

No word yet on the length of each of these but historians and experts are being interviewed all over the country to be cut into the historical footage and stills of each figure. FASCINATING that LucasFilm wants to educate as well as entertain!

All good to hear, we'll do some digging, see if we can come up with some more info.  Stay tuned!

Thanks to The Digital Bits, TheForce.net and IndyFan for the info.

Indy DVD Status!
April 24th, 2003 | Posted by Aaron

Our contacts within Lucasfilm have informed us of a few interesting facts about the Indiana Jones DVD.  There's good news, and then there's some bad news, but I can say for sure, progress with the DVDs is moving a long nicely.  First off some facts we can confirm:

  • Laurent Bouzerau is currently working on the Making of Specials: He was in London a month ago doing an interview with Vic Armstrong (Last we heard, he would be doing a commentary) as well as Spielberg, Ford, and some other stunt men.
  • David West Reynolds is working on other Bonus features for the DVDs.
  • All Three Films have been Digitally remastered: Previous Rumors have been stating that some of the film's glitches and minor bloopers have been fixed for the release).
  • Current release date for the DVDs is November: Just in time for Thanksgiving.  Current status is, the DVDs will be released all at once this November in a box set.  Then, in 2004, according to our sources, the DVDs will be released individually.

Now for some bad news...

  • As far as we know, there will be no Deleted Scenes on the DVD this time around.

But some redeeming Good news:

  • There will be a special edition of the Indy DVDs after Indy IV!

You can expect to hear more in the up coming months, as well as an official announcement this June. That's about it for now, nothing new other than that to report.  We'll keep you up to date, there's always changes, and as soon as we hear them, you'll be sure to find them here!

Another Force.net Indy DVD Spy Report!
April 23rd, 2003 | Posted by Aaron

TheForce.net has come through again with a very interesting and juicy report on the Indiana Jones DVDs!  It seems that the films will be interactive, you will be able to find out more about the places in the films and things like that, much like the Back to the Future DVD I would think.  They also state that the image quality is being greatly increased, very good news.  And last, the DVD's release time format has changed again.  It looks as if they will release the DVDs one at a time, starting with Raiders this Christmas.  Here's the full report:

"From what I’ve gathered from other internet news sources, Lucasfilm is doing a major overhaul to the original films in terms of image quality. But what I know hasn’t been seen on the net yet. Basically what you need to know is that the movies will be interactive – it wont be mandatory during film viewing, but you will have the option of learning more about the people and places depicted in various scenes. For instance, when Indy is in Cairo, you can stop to learn more about Northern Africa during the 1930s.

And I’ve also read rumors on other news sites that the DVDs wont be released as a trilogy, but one at a time over the next three years, with Raiders set to be released by Christmas 2003. I know the only "information stops" that have been worked on so far are related solely to places Indy went in Raiders of the Lost Ark, so I would presume that this release schedule is correct.

I'll get more, so stay tuned."

Excellent news!  We'll have to keep checking in, still just rumors, no official DVD news yet, but this looks pretty good!

Stay tuned!

'ET' for PS2 Delayed? (Updated)
April 18th, 2003
| Posted by Aaron

UPDATE:  I contacted LucasArts about the news, and the magazine got it wrong.  The current release date for 'Emperor's Tomb' is June 2003.  Just an extra month of wait than originally thought.  Stay Tuned!

Original Article:

Sad news for PS2 gamers.  Seems that the Official PS2 Magazine stated that the PS2 version of 'Emperor's Tomb' won't be released until September!  Though it's not official because it was not reported by LucasArts themselves, we'll check into it and try and get some more info.

Stay tuned for more info.  This article can be found on page 20 of the PS2M.  Thanks to 'Rumpled Fedora' for the tip.

Indiana Jones Nominated for AFI's Heroes and Villains
April 17th, 2003 | Posted by Aaron

Well folks, it seems that this year's AFI 100 Years of American movies will continue with 'AFI's Heroes and Villains' special.  Harrison Ford received 6 nominations, the most aside from John Wayne who has 7, including:

  • John Book - Witness,
  • Rick Deckard - Blade Runner,
  • Han Solo - Star Wars,
  • Indiana Jones - Indy Trilogy,
  • Dr. Richard Kimble - The Fugitive
  • Jack Ryan - Patriot Games

Very good news indeed.  Be on the look out for the new special.  It will air Tuesday, June 3rd, 2003 and will be hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger.  I think Indy has a pretty good chance.  Of all the characters listed, you can't get more heroic than the adventures of Indiana Jones.  So keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best!

Thanks to TheForce.net for the tip!

The New TIE.c...
April 10th, 2003 | Posted by
Eric Fisk

Hey, folks, Renderking here. I have to set the record straight here on Aaron’s site.

Little while ago, Aaron told me that he wanted revamp the site. My heart sank. It felt like hearing my mother telling me she was going to totally redo the home where my siblings and I grew up. He told me his ideas and he asked what I thought. I was painfully honest with him.

I said that the only ways any of his idea’s would work would be if he did them HIS way while at the same time make “The Experience” live up to it’s name. It has to be more then just a website, it has to be a place… somewhere people don’t just visit, but EXPERIENCE.

Folks are going to ask… what did I do. I honestly didn’t do ANY rendering he uses for this site. What I did do is a lot of straight talk, a lot of begging with him to keep the site less like a shine to Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones and make it more like a place Indiana Jones would explore or a home away from home. I also rendered a few ideas and sent him a few ideas I had which… to be honest I gave him an idea of what he DIDN’T want to do. We came up with some GREAT ideas but to be honest that didn’t work and his heart was stuck on what you see now. All I did was provide a sounding board and gave him advice.

How did Aaron do? I think this is the best yet.

Congratulations, Aaron... it’s just as good as you said it would be and more.

If you haven't noticed, we've completed re-vamped The Indy Experience.com!  It's been exactly 1 year since we opened to the day!  One year ago we first went online, and it's been one heck of a year!  For our first anniversary, we've added tons of new features and info that we're sure you'll love!  Here's just a few of the things that have been added/updated:

  • Indiana Jones Atlas - We've begun a project where we feature all the locations Indy visited and the Adventures that took place, all laid out geographically for ease of use!
  • Attractions - A list of Indiana Jones theme parks throughout the world.  Not yet complete, we still need info. on the Paris ride, but there's much more to come!
  • Fan Art: Aimee Reich - Here we feature all new Indiana Jones fan art by Aimee Reich!

We've also added some very cool 'Easter Eggs' scattered throughout the new Design, take a close look and see if you spot them! ;)

I'd like to give a special thanks to Eric Fisk, for without his hard work we could not have pulled this off.  He worked hard on design aspects and he stuck with me, and truly made a difference.

Indy DVD Talk: It's in the Works!
April 19th, 2003 | Posted by Aaron

TheForce.net reported that their sources are starting to spill info and report that the Indy DVDs are in the works!  They said that there won't be many changes made, but there will be a few errors corrected, such as the scene when Indy falls into the Well of Souls, you can see reflections in the glass separating Harrison Ford from the King Cobra, will be removed:

Industrial Light and Magic are working on the Indy DVD Trilogy right now. Hard to believe, isn't it? Hopefully, it will be worth the wait. Here's what I do know - apparently ILM is having to conduct a major restoration of the original print. There's quite a bit of digital film cleanup they're conducting as well.

No, there's not new scenes added (and the guy with the sword doesn't shoot first, thank goodness), but they are removing certain errors and weak elements from the picture. Expect wiring, equipment and reflections to be removed digitally - anything that distracted or looked weak in the final release may be evaluated again. Basically they've come up with a list of what gets fixed. When you see the DVD, hopefully the only thing you'll see is a beautiful movie with great sound, not lots of little annoyances that Steve and George want out.

Sounds cool!  I'm glad to hear there won't be a lot of changes, just a few technical things fixed.  It's good that Lucas isn't going to go overboard with it, it may be good for Star Wars, but most fans are happy with the way it is.  We'll keep you up to date!  Stay tuned!

Ford Says, No More Till Indy 4!
April 6th, 2003
| Posted by Aaron

Our good friends at HarrisonFordWeb reported that US magazine talked with Harrison Ford about Indy IV and what his plans are until then.  Looks like Ford's going to take it easy, and get ready, the next Ford project will be Indy IV!

"What's next for you?
I'm taking some time off and then I'll get ready for Indy 4 in 2004. We have a great stiory line. Spielberg will direct, and it will be as good as any of the others we've made. Maybe even better!"

VERY Cool news!  Glad to know Ford is going to take some time off to work on his role as an older Indy!  There's several topics this story covers.  1: the fact that Indy IV will be filmed in 2004, Spielberg will direct, they have at least a general story, and Ford seems to be much more optimistic this time, more than ever before!  Good news folks! Stay tuned!

Petra Listed on New 7 Wonders of the World!
April 4th, 2003 | Posted by Aaron

Good news folks!  Petra, the location where the Grail Temple was filmed in Last Crusade, has been included in the 'By Public Demand' section of the New 7 Wonders of the World!

The queen of the caravan cities, the legendary Petra at the edge of the Arabian Desert was the glittering capital of the Nabataean King Aretas IV (9 B.C. to 40 A.D.). Masters of water technology, the Nabataeans provided their city with great tunnel constructions and water chambers. An amphitheatre, built after Greek-Roman prototypes, offered space for an audience of no fewer than 4,000 persons. Still today, the Palace Tombs of Petra, with the 42-metre-high Hellenistic temple façade on the El-Deir Monastery, belong to the most impressive achievements of Middle Eastern culture.

Let's hope Petra gets good votes!  Go here to do your part and vote!  Thanks to 'Roberto' from Indy ESP!

Gamespot Reviews Emperor's Tomb for PC
April 3rd, 2003 | Posted by Aaron

Gamespot posted a new and more promising review for 'Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb' for PC.  The PC version got a higher score than the Xbox version, but it's still not as high as some fans would hope, coming in with a 7.2 (good).

"While you'll spend most of your time in the game running around and climbing up and over platforms, there is also quite a bit of combat to be found. While the combat isn't terribly deep, it can still be incredibly satisfying. Indy's punches, kicks, and grabs are exaggerated like in an action movie, giving you the impression that he's really beating the hell out of his foes."

Is it just me, or do they seem to compare 'Emperor's Tomb' to Tomb Raider?  Read it and decide for yourself.  Hit the link above for more info and the full review!
