More on Indy the DVD!
December 28th, 2002 | Posted by Aaron

The Digital Bits reported that the Indy DVDs will be popping up pretty soon along with the release of Indy IV.  Spielberg talked to Verity where he hinted that Indy IV would be "...synchronized with the debut on DVD of the first three pictures."

The article further mentions 2005 as the theatrical release year for Indy 4. So the idea seems to be that Raiders hits DVD in 2003, Temple of Doom arrives on disc in 2004 and Last Crusade shows up in early 2005, just before the new film hits theaters.

Good to hear that things are moving, but sad to know that we won't be able to purchase all three films at once.  But I assure you it will indeed be worth the wait!  We'll keep you up to date!

Thanks to The Digital Bits!

More Indy IV Talk
December 18th, 2002 | Posted by Aaron

Spielberg spoke with Sci Fi Wire about Indy IV's current status.  He confirmed that it would take place some time in the 50's and would have a supernatural aspect as well.  He also stated that Darabont was in the middle of working on the script and will begin filming some time in 2004:

Steven Spielberg, who will direct a fourth installment of the Indiana Jones franchise, confirmed for SCI FI Wire that the movie will have a supernatural element and that it will take place in the 1950s. "You have to understand that [star] Harrison [Ford] is going to be 62 years old when the film [begins production in 2004], so we had to push the years into the 1950s," Spielberg said in an interview.

Spielberg also revealed that it was Ford himself who got the ball rolling on development of the sequel. Spielberg said that neither he nor producer George Lucas would otherwise have thought of making another Indy adventure. "Harrison's the one who got George and [me] to do it," the director said. "I was done with the Indiana Jones series, and Harrison got very proactive with both George and [me] and said, 'I want to play Indy one more time.' So he started this. Blame him."

Writer/director Frank Darabont (The Green Mile) is still writing the Indy script, but preproduction is on schedule for Spielberg to begin directing in 2004, with an eye to a July 2005 release, Spielberg said. "We have a story," he said. "The story's wonderful, but Frank's writing the script right now. Frank and I and George spent weeks together pounding out the story. The story's all pounded out. Now Frank just has to labor through it."

Good to hear there will be a supernatural aspect, wouldn't be Indy without it!  Looks like things will begin to heat up in 2004, as the suspense builds up to the release of Indy IV!  Stay Tuned!

Connery Confirmed for Indy IV!
December 16th, 2002 | Posted by Aaron

Spielbergfilms.com reported that in Cindy Pearl's column in the Chicago Tribune featured a few quotes from Spielberg saying that Connery WILL be in Indy IV (but sadly, only for a few scenes) and also confirming that Indy IV will take place in the 1950's.  Here's what was said:

Fans of Sean Connery's Henry Jones, Sr. from INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE will be glad to know Spielberg has confirmed the the screen legend will indeed be a part of the new film! "Sean Connery as Indy's pop will be back for a few scenes, and it's set in the early '50s. That's all I'm saying, and I've already said too much,"

Spielberg also talked about Indy's old girlfriends coming back for the fourth film:

"I'd like to get Karen Allen back for one soundbite, and there are other Indy girls who had smaller roles who will come back."

"Frank Darabont, who is writing the script, called me and said, 'I'm not sure we can work [Wille Scott] into the script, too."

Glad to hear Connery will be in Indy IV, it just wouldn't be Indy without dad.  Thanks have certainly changed in the past months, things are looking worse for Willie, but better for Marion.  Stay tuned, we'll keep you up to date!

Thanks to Spielbergfilms.com!

Indy DVD Next Fall?
December 13th, 2002 | Posted by Aaron

Here's some interesting news from the Hometheaterforum posted the following from the Wallstreet Journal:

Q. "E.T." is finally out on DVD after a long wait. Fans of Indiana Jones are hoping "Raiders of the Lost Ark" won't be far behind, but Paramount is mum. Can you fill us in?

A. We're aiming for next fall. George Lucas and I are having an argument with Paramount. Paramount wants to come out with all three [Indiana Jones] movies in one package. George [writer and producer of "Raiders"] and I want to come out with one film at a time and then come out with all three movies, and maybe even the fourth one, in one package later. (Paramount says there is no argument and discussions are ongoing.)

Exciting news!  One can hope that this is indeed true.  Sad to hear that the issue of how to release the DVDs have been holding them back.  Personally I'd like to see them released all at once, but who cares?!  It's Indy on DVD!  We'll get more info on this story and bring it to you the minute we know!  Stay tuned!

Power Unlimited Previews Emperor's Tomb
December 13th, 2002 | Posted by Ralph

The January 2003 edition of the Dutch game magazine Power Unlimited went to Breda (The Netherlands) to preview 3 new games of LucasArts including Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb. Here is the full article:

Indy Action:

The man with the hat was the first we could try out. LucasArts totally steps of the old school point & click adventures.  They go for the arcade-action and you can agree or disagree.  The reason for this move sounds plausible.  The Indiana Jones movies are full of fight scenes, wild chases, shoot-outs and confrontations, something that  the past adventures didn't have.  Who doesn't remember the funny fistfights in the classic Indiana Jones & the Holy Grail (
E-mail is already underway to Power Unlimited)?  The game itself had excellent adventure aspects, but the fistfights give a nice twist to the game.

Buffy Jones:

In ' Emperor's Tomb', combat will have a (much bigger) role, but the adventurers won't be forgotten.  Platform elements (where Indy cracks his leather whip a lot) and puzzles keep your gray mass busy, while you can knock and shoot.
The Collective, the developer behind the Xbox game Buffy - The Vampire Slayer, helped LucasArts a lot.  LucasArts was impressed by the fight scenes in the Buffy game.  They wanted that for the Indy game too!

The result of this is that the Archeologist uses his fists a lot.  Specially the fistfights in the bars and at the dig sites are fun.  Tables and chairs can be broken, were the broken furniture can be used by Indy and his enemy as a bat.  But with a kick and a tip-chair can also be used in fights.

Who now thinks that this is a new Double Dragon.  Relax
...
the developers won't get that far with the game.  The archeological and cultural high-principles will beat the archeological heart harder and harder.

Also the necessary climbing won't be forgotten, were booby traps tests your reflexes.  Pitfalls, breaking platforms, whip puzzles, moving walls, spikes that come out the walls and the ceilings.  It's all there!

Emperor's Tomb is due out on PC, Xbox and PS2

This article can be found in the January 2003 edition of the Power Unlimited at page 70 and is available now in stores in Belgium, Luxembourg and The Netherlands.

Indy IV Script Finished!
December 13th, 2002 | Posted by Aaron

Zap2it reported that Spielberg has announced that the script for Indy IV has been finished and Ford is ready to play Indy!  Full Article:

HOLLYWOOD (Zap2it.com) - Finding the answer to whether or not there will be a fourth "Indiana Jones" movie has been as long, complex and elusive as the search for the Holy Grail. One minute it's in front of you, and then it appears to disappear in the mist.

While earlier this summer Harrison Ford toyed with the idea that he would be willing to star in another installment of the blockbuster series, he wouldn't come straight out and say that it was actually happening.

"I'll wait until I get a script that I can commit to, then I'll pick up the whip again," he told Zap2it during interviews for "K-19: The Widowmaker."

However, the grail may finally be within grabbing distance. Steven Spielberg has confirmed to "Access Hollywood" that Harrison Ford is on board for "Indiana Jones IV" and that production is slated to begin in 2004 for a 2005 release.

During an interview for his latest film, "Catch Me If You Can," Spielberg told Pat O'Brien that the new script is written and has been approved, and that he will direct the project himself.

Good news indeed!  They must have been working hard to get the script done this fast, nice work by Darabont.  And it's always good to hear a bit of reassurance that Ford is indeed going to be Indy.  :-)

We'll keep you up to date with the latest in Indy IV news, stay tuned!
