Spielberg: Indy Trilogy DVD THIS YEAR!
January 31st, 2003 | Posted by Aaron

DarkHorizons reported that in an interview with Empire Spielberg said that we can defiantly expect an Indy Trilogy DVD set by the end of the year:

Empire talked with Steven Spielberg who says we will see the Indy trilogy definitely by the end of this year. He wanted to release one at a time, but Paramount is keen on a box-set.

Although it may not be what Spielberg was hoping for, I'm sure that a lot of fans are happy to know that they won't have to wait to get all three movies on DVD.  Keep your fingers crossed and stay tuned!

Indy IV Tid-Bit! - UPDATED
January 30th, 2003 | Posted by Aaron

According to DarkHorizons, Spielberg, while in France, said that he will begin shooting Indy IV in June:

Steven Spielberg apparently indicated in France that he'll start shooting Indy 4 in June and then helm another project with Tom Hanks at the end of the year.

Thought that was interesting, things are certainly starting to heat up with actual filming of Indy IV not far away!  Keep in mind this is just a rumor, no official word yet.  Stay tuned, we'll keep you up to date!

UPDATE: Jean-Michel from Jones-Jr. alerted me that the above rumor was false.  According to the full interview, Spielberg said that they are planning to film Indy IV in June of 2004, rather than June 2003, for a June 2005 release.

Thanks to Jean-Michel for the alert!

Good News for PS2 Fans in the UK

Peter alerted me to CD Wow, a company that is selling 'Emperor's Tomb' for PS2 at a very low price.  £32.99, and that's with free shipping!  Peter assures me that this site is legitimate and he has purchased games from here before and they do a wonderful job.

Also keep in mind that this is the PAL version of the game, the version used in Europe, so people in the US won't be able to play this game on a regular PS2.  Thanks Peter for the link!

New 'ET' Preview, and MORE!
January 27th, 2003 | Posted by Aaron

Peter Lally just got the February 2003 issue of the UK magazine, 'PSI2 Magazine' where they give a very exciting and intriguing look at the up coming 'Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb' game!  Not only does it talk about Emperor's Tomb, it also hints at the next installment of the Indiana Jones movie series, "The plot is most heavily rumoured around Atlantis but Spielberg has confirmed otherwise and commented that it will be something biblical and something to do with Adam and Eve."  Here's the full article:

Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb: - The Original Tomb Raiding Hero is Back to make his mark on a PS2 near you this year!!

The Setup

Based on the hugely successful Indiana Jones trilogy, Lucasarts’ Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb is clambering through a dusty crypt towards you this very moment. In his latest gaming adventure Indy is plunged into an International crisis of terrifying magnitude.

At the beginning of the game a powerful Asian society, Black Dragon Triad, and a German mercenary Albrecht Von Beck have formed an unholy alliance in the hopes of acquiring the Heart of the Dragon, a black pearl that gives its possessor to mould minds.

The rumours are that this powerful artifact is buried deep in the crypt of China’s first emperor, safely hidden for 2000 years. Now its up to Indy to prevent the Heart of the Dragon falling into the hands of an unwelcome coalition.

Heart of a Hero

Indiana Jones get in the race to acquire the heart when he’s hired to retrieve it by Marshal K’ai an Asian businessman who wants the pearl to control the government of China. But its not that easy. Indy must navigate 10 levels, including the streets of Hong Kong, nasty croc infested waters of Ceylon, 15th Century castles and underwater palaces in Istanbul. Why? Well because the only way to enter the Emperors tomb is by collecting all the scattered pieces of the Dragon Seal – an ancient artefact that acts as the key to open the crypt that holds the pearl.

Indy’s New Chick… So Who’s the Skirt?

To help him track down the pearl Indy needs a beautiful assistant and in this case he’s treated to the company of Mei Ying (Marshall Kai’s stunning assistant). She helps him throughout the journey which culminates in China with a retrieval of the Pearl. His partner will be controllable which puts this game in direct comparison with Lara’s new game, where you handle a second character during the game. Unlike Indy she can handle herself in all manners of martial arts genius and will be most appealing to watch fighting off the bad guys in a variety of short skirts… phwoar

Global Gathering

As you probably gathered, China and the far east play a big part in the game, but Indy does a lot of globe trotting. The game begins in Ceylon and the setting is an ancient temple in the midst of a tropical jungle. From there Indy journeys to a medieval castle in Prague, and ends up in a mosque in Istanbul. After that he travels to Hong Kong and the South China Sea, and eventually our hero ends up in Xian, where the tomb of the first emperor and the pearl lie in wait. Lucasarts are promising a wide variety of environments, from lush jungles to the darkest spookiest tombs which would make Lara think twice about raiding.

The Next Indiana Jones – Indy-pendant Cinema

By the time you get your hands on the game, the next episode in the Indiana Jones film series should be well underway, but at this stage the details and are sketchy at best.  Steven Spielberg said he would direct it but he is otherwise engaged as is George Lucas.

Rick McCallum seems to think it’s a case of availability too, he says “We have a fantastic script and everyone really wants to do it. We’ve now got to wait for everyone to be free.

The plot is most heavily rumoured around Atlantis but Spielberg has confirmed otherwise and commented that it will be something biblical and something to do with Adam and Eve. Harrison Ford, Sean Connery and John Rhys Davies have all been asked to return for a tenuous winter 2003 shooting start. (This goes with what Lucas said – Peter)

Sweeeeeeet!

Whipping the enemies has to be one of the high points of battling the baddies.

Enemy Action

Each environment Indy enters will have its own set of enemies. These range from mercenaries to Nazis to Triad fighters. There are also level bosses that Indy will have to defeat in each of the different locations. The developers tell us the emphasis in this game is action, so enemies will show unique Al in combat and each type of enemy will have varied ways of trying to dispose of our Indiana, according to Lucasarts. The game makers have been trying to capture the flavour of the movies, combing a fast paced story and action mixed with elements of adventure romance and intrigue.

Slayer Engine

This action-centric title will be powered by a Slayer Engine, the same type as that used to power the Xbox’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and a technology spawned in turn by the same teams work on Deep Space Nine: The Fallen. Thanks to this action orientated engine, Indy will be able to whip, jump, shoot, step on and punch Nazis in the typical Indy fashion. The makers also tell us to expect a loud “thwack” movie-style punch sound – in true Indy style – plus an story-driven plot with action in between entertaining cut-scenes.

Indy-Structible

There is going to be basically two types of combat: hand to hand and ranged. Hand to hand allows, Indy to use a wide variety of punches, kicks and grabs, as well as weapons to kill enemies, such as swords, chairs, table legs and his trusty whip. Ranged combat allows Indy to use his pistol and other weapons such as a shotgun, a submachine gun and other special weapons yet to be unveiled.

Action comes thick an fast in terms of vehicular activity too. Indy’s spine-tingling movie-like action sequences include a rickshaw chase in Hong Kong and a spectacular battle atop moving gondolas in the South China Sea area. It’s set-pieces like these that will have to deliver the goods for the game to be a real success.

Indy In Action – What to expect from Dr. Jones…

Swinging

Essential to the character, to swing across ravines, attack enemies and general swing that whip around like some kind of hard guy.

Tools of Destruction

Indy can use his trusty pistol, or a standard machine gun, Tommy gun, shot gun, spear, spinning blade fists or feet and many more.

Swim For It

Like Lara, Indy swims about too but he’s better at it because he’s a man (bigger lungs you see) He has the same enemies too, sharks and alligators.

Mei Ying

You’re not just controlling the whip warrior y’know! Players will also have to know how to treat a lady when they take control of feisty kung fu mistress Mei Ying.

Spielberg Says No Digital Indy!
January 27th, 2003 | Posted by Aaron

Spielbergfilms.com reported an interview with Steven Spielberg by Empire Online where Mr. Spielberg confirmed that Indy IV will not be shot digitally, but in 35mm film!

"I think practically speaking, there aren't going to be enough theatres even in 2005 to exhibit digital film to make it worth my while to commit digitally to Indy 4 at this time. If there were 2,000 screens with digital projectors I might seriously consider it for George and his vision of the future, but it looks like there's no chance that the theatres will put it in the next three years, so I'll be happily shooting Indy 4 on film."

Very exciting indeed!  Personally, I'm very happy to know that Indy IV will be shot on good old fashioned 35mm film, to keep it looking like the other two.  There's just something about film that can't be beat.

Thanks to Empire Online and Spielbergfilms.com for the news!

Indy IV Release Date Changed?
January 26th, 2003 | Posted by Aaron

Upcomingmovies (along with several other Movie news websites) reported that Indy IV's release date has changed from July 4th 2005, to July 1st 2005.  This would put the release of Indy IV on a Friday rather than a Monday.  July 1st is also the fictional hero's birthday, which would give better meaning for the date.

Counting Down also reported that, "In related news, Director Steven Spielberg has been quoted to have said that they have a running subtitle (Tagline), but he hasn't revealed what it is."

Very interesting news, seems that things are beginning to heat up in the world of Indiana Jones.  Stay tuned for the latest!

'ET' Is One of the Most Wanted Game of 2003!
January 20
th, 2003 | Posted by Aaron

Gamespy has named 'Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb' one of the most wanted games of 2003!  The reason?  Combining The Collective's well known and well liked Buffy the Vampire Slayer engine and combines it with the thrills and adventures of Indiana Jones!

Indiana Jones may be getting long in the tooth, but he's never looked better than in Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb. Though the whip-wielding, kiss-stealing, treasure-hoarding, and villain-thrashing archaeologist has had his fair share of gaming adventures, none have been as potentially exciting as this one.

Getting more and more exciting as time goes by folks!  With all the positive reviews that we've seen, it's no doubt that 'ET' will live up to the hype and certainly bring Indy back into the spot light!  'ET' might just steal the show this year, so keep your eyes open and stay tuned!

'Emperor's Tomb' Development Report
January 18th, 2003 | Posted by Aaron

IGN Vault posted a very interesting Development Report fro 'Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb' cover the aspects of making a better Indy.

My goal for Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb was to make the most convincing Indy possible, and that meant nailing the likeness of Harrison Ford. The first thing I did was grab as much reference as I could on the actor. I purchased every book I could get my hands on and spent hours on the web downloading his image. The one thing that's amazing about Mr. Ford's face is how different it looks from film to film. I decided to stick with Indy reference; he has a distinct smirk that permeated the Indy reference I gathered. I also decided to narrow my reference to Raiders and Temple of Doom as we were going for an Indy that predates all of the films.

One look at the screen show of Indy holding his whip is proof enough to show that the team at LucasArts and The Collective Inc. have done a super job at capturing the image of Indy life never before!  The detail and work that has been invested in this game is incredible!  You won't be disappointed.

Indy IV to Film This Year Says Lucas!
January 14th, 2003 | Posted by Aaron

FoxNews.com that during the annual Film Critics Awards in New York, Lucas told FoxNews that he wrote the story for Indy IV, and is hopping to film it this year:

Many interesting things came out of last night's annual New York Film Critics Awards dinner. For one thing, Star Wars creator George Lucas told me that he wrote the story for Indiana Jones 4 last summer and expects to shoot it sometime this year with Steven Spielberg.

Very interesting, at first we expected Indy IV to film in 2004, looks like things are starting to change!  Could this mean Indy IV will be released earlier than first expected?  We'll keep you up to date!

New 'Emperor's Tomb' Preview
January 13th, 2003 | Posted by Aaron

Team Xbox featured a very positive review of 'Emperor's Tomb'.  They cover all the aspects of the game, and give us a good idea as to how this game's going to be, and it will be fine!

The game itself is a third-person action/adventure title similar to the Tomb Raider series, although we all know who the “real” tomb raider is. Indy will travel to several exotic locations, including: Sri Lanka, Prague, Istanbul, Hong Kong, and a Nazi Sub Base, just to name a few. The game consists of 10 levels total that are made up of several areas. Many of the areas will require Indy to explore to find artifacts, solve simple puzzles, and take on a few bad guys in a number of ways. We all know that Indy is quite the pugilist, so you’ll be able to swing, punch, head butt, basically anything you might imagine him doing in the movies, to get out of trouble. He’ll also have a wide array of items and weapons in his inventory, including his trusty bull whip.

So far, Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb looks to be a nice addition to the early 2003 Xbox lineup. Ms. Croft had a nice little run, but Indy’s back and this adventure looks to be the best yet.

Looks very promising, Emperor's Tomb is getting closer and closer, so keep an eye out, it'll be worth the wait.

Spielberg Talks Indy IV's Supernatural Elements
January 3rd, 2003 | Posted by Aaron

Empire Online featured a few tid-bits of info about Indy IV's supernatural elements from Spielberg:

Supernatural Spielberg: In addition to letting slip that Indy will have to face a terrifying roll call of his past lovers, Steven Spielberg has also disclosed that Indy will be up against a supernatural element in the upcoming fourth Indiana Jones instalment. In addition to letting a little bit of E.T. into Jones's historical world, he also indicated that the setting will also change. "You have to understand that Harrison is going to be 62 years old when the film begins production in 2004, so we had to push the years into the 1950s," Spielberg pointed out while assuring us with the news that preproduction is on schedule and the July 2005 release still in view. The better the sooner, considering the age of the leading man, we say.

So, could we end up with some Aliens in Indy IV?  Very interesting info indeed, we'll keep you updated!

Thanks to 'Ken' for the link!
