Darabont Corrects Indy IV Script Info
March 28th, 2003 | Posted by Aaron

Yesterday we reported that Harrison Ford said he had read the script for Indy IV and that the progress with the Indy IV script was going good with 225-250 pages.  This is not the case.  Coming Soon corrected the article with Darabont saying that the script is only 80 pages long (first draft) and Ford has not yet seem the script, and he won't until Spielberg approves it.

"the intention is to make it entertaining and adventurous."

Looks like there was a misunderstanding yesterday, sad to say.  But at least there is progress with Indy IV and the script.

Stay tuned!

Ford Talks Indy IV Script!
March 27th, 2003 | Posted by
Aaron

Live Journal talked with Harrison Ford yesterday, where he spoke of the script that he had received, and if Sean Connery would appear in Indy IV.

Ford said that he did have a script of the latest Indiana Jones installment written by Frank Darabont (Green Mile, Majestic and my favorite, The Shawshank Redemption) and it was a bit long, well over 200 pages, maybe 225-250. The word "pretentious" came up.

Asked if Sean Connery would be in it, he said, "I hope so".

When asked if rumors of Raiders of the Lost Ark would be sanitized ala ET to make it politically correct, he laughed and had never heard of that rumor. Apparently the rumor was that the scene of him shooting an arab would be taken out or changed.

Terrible visions of South Park run through my head, God forbid...  But I wouldn't worry about that sort of thing folks.  As for the script, I'm looking forward to a long Indy IV, I personally like long movies, gives time of good character development and good quality story.  You look at a lot of sequels today, they seem to get shorter and shorter, and they keep getting worse and worse along with that.  We'll just have keep our fingers crossed, stay tuned folks!

Thanks to Dark Horizons for the tip!

Darabont Talks Indy IV Baddies and Script!
March 21st, 2003 | Posted by
Aaron

Sci-Fi Wire talked with Frank Darabont, screenplay writer for Indiana Jones IV, about the Indy IV script and the new bad guys for Indy IV!  Darabont confirmed that he is working hard at creating the script, and that Spielberg is happy with the progress:

Frank Darabont, screenwriter of the upcoming fourth Indiana Jones movie, told SCI FI Wire that the sequel's 1950s setting requires different villains from those in previous installments, which were set in the 1930s. "Those pesky Nazis seem to have departed, which is a shame, because I like those pesky Nazis, because you can just squash them all over the place," Darabont said, with tongue in cheek.

Darabont would not say who the new villains were, but assured that the tone of adventure would be consistent with previous Indy movies. "From the standpoint of the fun of it and the adventure of it, [there will be] no [change]," he said.

Darabont added that he has nearly completed a first draft of the script and that director Steven Spielberg is happy with his progress. "The reaction has been quite good," he said. But the writer added that he is approaching the script one day at a time. "Right now, every day is like one foot in front of the other," he said. "It's 'How do I solve this next scene? How do I get this next three pages in its best form?'" The new Indiana Jones movie is still aiming for a July 1, 2005, release.

Excellent news, and very exciting!  July 1st, Indy's birthday, that would make an excellent release date!  I'm sure we're all glad to hear some progress news on Indy IV.  Finally some good news about Indy IV's progress!  Stay tuned!

Just Adventure + LucasArts Interviews - UPDATED
March 11th, 2003 | Posted by
Aaron

Just Adventure + posted various interviews with members of the development team on several LucasArts titles, including an interview with 'Emperor's Tomb' producer, Jim Tso:

Indy’s well-known for using his wits as well as his fists to solve a problem.  Will the player be able to make that choice in The Emperor’s Tomb or does every puzzle only have one solution?

[Jim Tso] We actually don't have that many puzzles in the traditional adventure sense but there are definitely many obstacles that Indy has to overcome.

Is there any possibility that the newest Indy game could serve as an inspiration for a new Indiana Jones movie?

[Jim Tso] You never know :-)

Pretty cool set of interviews, be sure to read them all at: Just Adventure +.

UPDATE: Just Adventure + has posted a new 'Emperor's Tomb' Xbox review!  Very good to say the least, and humorous!  Check it out: Just Adventure +!

More Indy DVD Talk
March 3rd, 2003 | Posted by
Aaron

In Focus spoke with Lawrence Kasdan, screen play writer for Raiders of the Lost Ark.  In the interview, Kasdan talked about his work on Raiders of the Lost Ark, and his Raiders script rewrite ending up on DVD.  Take a look:

In Focus: Our magazine did a survey last year asking readers to name the best films of all time, and both "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Empire Strikes Back," unsurprisingly, made the top 10. Is it wrong of us to wonder why your talents weren't utilized on more "Indiana Jones" and "Star Wars" movies?

Lawrence Kasdan: No. It couldn’t be simpler. [laughs] George and Steven asked me to do the second one; I didn’t want to do it. I was directing movies at that point; I was really proud of “Raiders” — it was an incredible movie — and I really didn’t want to go back there.

I had done the sequels to the “Star Wars” movies because George had asked me to do it. You know, I had finished “Raiders,” and he asked to come in and help him out with “Empire” — he was in a spot. And it was great fun, and it was over relatively quickly. Then I went off and I made “Body Heat” — partially with the support of George — and I had a directing career that was going pretty good. He asked me to come back and just write “Jedi” because he was really desperate at that point. We did it together, and we did it really fast; I felt like it was a job of work. But I’m not a huge sequel fan, and I didn’t see any reason for me to be working on the “Indiana Jones” series.

You know, when I was hired to do “Raiders,” I’d only been in the business a couple of weeks. Steven had actually bought “Continental Divide” to produce, and what he really wanted was for me to write “Raiders.” And he introduced me to George, and in 10 minutes George gave me the job — and I found myself working with the two hottest people of my generation. A few weeks later, we were outlining the story, and then I went away for six months and wrote it. It couldn’t have been much more satisfying. But to me, that’s never an excuse to do another one — you put it in the bank and you do something else.

In Focus: Now, you told Starlog in 1981 about your “Raiders” script rewrite: “A little bit of my script's logic and character development fell out along the way.” What was missing? And will it show up on the Indiana Jones DVDs?

Lawrence Kasdan: I don’t think so. [laughs] Actually, I ran into Frank Marshall over the holidays, and he’s working on that [DVD] collection. I don’t think there’s going to be a lot of…. I don’t know what they have planned. They obviously made a lot of smart decisions about what should be in the movie and what shouldn’t.

Interesting news.  Who knows?  Maybe the script rewrite will end up on the DVD.  But this is a sure sign that the Indy Trilogy is defiantly making it's way to DVD!  Stay tuned!

Finally, Some 'ET' PC Reviews!
March 1st, 2003 | Posted by
Aaron

Good news for PC Indy fans!  Both IGN and GameSpot have posted reviews of the PC version of 'Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb', and they've got some good stuff to say about it.  From IGN:

The adventure takes place over 10 levels that vary in style and location. From the beginning tutorial type levels set in an overgrown and rundown ancient tomb in China, to the grounds of a medieval castle in Prague, Indy is full of action and flash while providing plenty of jumping puzzles for those platform freaks out there.

GameSpot gives an inept review of the workings of Indy on PC:

Fortunately, the PC version of the game will use an intuitive first-person shooter control scheme in which you will move using the W, A, S, and D keys and attack using the left and right mouse buttons. You will be able to block incoming attacks by pressing the shift key, which will also automatically lock onto a specific enemy and let Indy focus his attacks.

All around good reviews and of course new screen shots!  Exciting times, keep it here for all the updates, and remember to keep an eye out for 'Emperor's Tomb' on PC, it'll be hitting the shelves March 18th!

Thanks to MixnMojo for the tips!
