George Lucas: Indy 4 Won't Be in 3-D
March 17th, 2005 | Posted by Aaron

Variety.com posted an article on 3-D movies and what's to come.  Included in the article was an interview with several filmmakers including George Lucas who commented on the idea of shooting Indiana Jones 4 in 3-D.  Here's what he had to say:

"And when asked if the fourth "Indiana Jones" film, long in development, will be made in 3-D, he said it would be hard enough to persuade Steven Spielberg to shoot on digital video. He said the latest version of the script is due back to him in a month or so."

Well, that's a relief!  Granted, it would be a cool (well, more along the lines of novel) idea to do Indy 4 in 3-D, it would detract too much from the feel of the rest of the films which is something Spielberg has worked hard to keep.  But you have to admit, Indy cracking his whip right into the theater would a sight to see.

Aside from that, Lucas' comments on the Indiana Jones 4 script are very encouraging.  It would appear that Nathanson is not too far from having the Indy 4 rewrite finished.  Let's just hope Lucas doesn't obliterate it this time around.  We'll keep you up to date!

Recent Survey Sparks Indy Game Speculation
March 16th, 2005 | Posted by Aaron

Computer and Video Games.com reported that a recent market research survey sent out to gamers around the world (which a lot of you probably received) that featured questions about next-generation consoles and new Indiana Jones videogames.

The survey asked questions such as, "Do you plan to buy an Xbox 2 or PS3?" and "Who are your favourite characters from the Indiana Jones movies?"  Now that is the interesting part.  You could interpret this to say that LucasArts may be wanting to pull together elements from the entire Indiana Jones film series (the trilogy and the Young Indy chronicles) as suggested by Computer and Video Games.com:

"This could suggest that plans are being made to draw together characters and plotlines from all three Indiana Jones movies (and also the Young Indiana Jones TV series, which is also mentioned in the survey) to create an anachronistic Indy masterpiece, echoing the way EA's GoldenEye: Rogue Agent brought together some of the greatest Bond characters of all time (though in a good way obviously)."

Sounds like a plan.  The article also made note of the recent comments from Jim Ward that a yearly Indy video game may be in our future, and anyone can tell you the possibilities are endless.  It would be great (to say the least) to see an Indiana Jones video game either based on the Indiana Jones films or one that brought back old characters (for instance, Wu Han in Emperor's Tomb).  But then again, any new Indy game would be welcomed with open arms.

And while it's an interesting idea, and the clues do point to such a conclusion, it is just speculation at this point.  Then again, LucasArts would be crazy not to roll with the idea.  We'll learn more as time goes and as production on the next Indiana Jones video game begins.  Stay tuned to TIE.c for the latest!

Thanks to Jeff for the news!

First 8 Minutes of Courage & Stupidity on IFILM
March 10th, 2005 | Posted by Aaron

IFILM.com has posted the first eight minutes of Courage and Stupidity for the world to enjoy!  Incase you aren't familiar with the film, C&S is a 25-minute short about Steven Spielberg and the struggles he faced in the early years of making Jaws:

"Courage & Stupidity is a comedy inspired by Steven Spielberg and his early years as an up and coming filmmaker. Set somewhere in the 1970's, Steven has a major studio deal to direct a movie about a killer shark and is confident that his experience will be a breeze. Conflicts arise after Steven and his pal George (based on George Lucas) accidentally destroy the movies main prop --- a mechanical shark. The day following the giant fish sinks to the ocean floor and it looks as if the director's career has gone with it. Steven must stop the film's producers from pulling the plug and find a way to make his monster movie without a monster. Al though inspired by public information, the truth is that Mr. Spielberg has never harmed nor would he ever harm a mechanical fish."

Be sure to visit Courage and Stupidity.com official site to learn more about this endearing film and purchase a copy of Courage & Stupidity on DVD.  And check out IFILM.com to view the first eight minutes of the film.

Washington Obfuscator Reports on Spielberg's Latest
March 9th, 2005 | Posted by Aaron

Here's a little something to tickle your funny bone after a hard day's work.  Popular satirical news site, The Washington Obfuscator reported on Steven Spielberg's latest film project: a melding together of Schindler's List, the Jurassic Park films and the Indiana Jones series to create the plot for Schindler's List II: Nazi Velociraptors of the Lost Ark!  Here's an excerpt from the article:

"Although Spielberg, 58, was mum on the plot of Schindler's List II: Nazi Velociraptors of the Lost Ark, a source familiar with the script says it takes place in the year 2547, when cloned velociraptors rule the earth via a reconstituted Nazi government that subsists on labor camps/meat farms stocked with the remnants of humanity. After a velociraptor outcast spares the lives of a small band of defiant humans, they join forces in a global quest to find the lost Ark of the Covenant, misplaced yet again and reputed to be powerful enough to unclone dinosaurs. The film is an unprecedented meta sequel to Schindler’s List (1993), the three Jurassic Park movies (1993, 1997, and 2001), and the Indiana Jones films (1981, 1984, and 1989)."

The scary party is, this has a better chance of being made than Indiana Jones 4.  Just kidding!  (I hope.)  You can read the full article at The Washington Obfuscator.  If you need a good life, it's worth a look.

Scarlett Johansson Rumor Debunked
March 9th, 2005 | Posted by Aaron

As we reported yesterday, Teen Today.co.uk posted a quote from an unnamed source claiming that actress Scarlett Johansson was being considered for the role of Indy's "sexy" sidekick in Indiana Jones 4:

"Steven was discussing how there are not many young actresses who can carry off such a strong role. "He considered Natalie Portman but she's too associated with 'Star Wars'. So Tom suggested Scarlett who he has been working with on 'Mission Impossible 3'. She is said to be really interested, but nothing has been decided yet."

The rumor didn't have much merit to it from the start, so I contacted Scarlett Johansson's agent to see if the rumor had any substance to it and her agent confirmed that the rumor was totally fabricated.  Just some teen gossip run wild, case closed.

New Fan Game: Indiana Jones and the Fountain of Youth!
March 5th, 2005 | Posted by Aaron

TIE.c has added a new preview for an upcoming fan-made game to our Indiana Jones Fan Game Section that I am sure you will all love!  Indiana Jones and the Fountain of Youth is the new game by Screen 7 who have been working on this fan game for over four years now and it looks like it will become a favorite among Indiana Jones gamers.  Fountain of Youth has been created in the classic 320x200 resolution, reminiscent of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis which is considered by most fans to be the greatest Indy game ever made.  We can expect a PC demo to be available sometime this month.

I would like to extend a well-deserved thank you to Mark Lovegrove, FoY project leader, for helping me prepare this special page for Fountain of Youth.

Master Replicas Planning a Line of Indy Props?
March 5th, 2005 | Posted by Aaron

We've learned of some interesting developments from Master Replicas the company that has produced some of the most stunning Star Wars prop replicas fans have ever seen.  Indy fans have been waiting to get their grave-robbing hands on quality Indy prop replicas from Master Replicas for a long time now.  So far not much has been said nor heard whether or not Master Replicas would ever actually produce Indiana Jones props but fans have kept their hopes up.

Well, now it seems that it may actually happen according to a post made on the Replica Prop Forum (temporarily offline until next week) by a representative from Master Replicas.  He stated that Master Replicas has been working for some time to get the license to make Indy props but there have been some details and time issues that have held the project back:

"We have been talking to Lucasfilm for over two years about this license. However, we have some final details and timing issues to still be resolved.

IF those are resolved to everyone's satisfaction (and I said IF) we can start making replicas. I have already completed the product plan and I have been to the archive to review what they had available...pretty much everything we wanted is there. So, that's good.

So, if the details can be worked out, you will see MR IJ prop replicas. I am not sure if any will be ready for this year, but one can hope...We are trying.

I for one, would love to have a plated metal, "bandanaless" idol molded from an original.

OR a correctly-sized RA headpiece (the "fan" version is way too small, I have compared them).

Or a grail diary scanned from the original.

Or a grail cup molded from the original...

Or...or...

Ooh, I just got all tingly..."

According to everyone I've talked to this appears to be a very reliable source.  Assuming this is all accurate, we may see a line of Indiana Jones props coming from Master Replicas within a few years but nothing is final until we hear some official confirmation.  We'll do some investigating and see what we can turn up.  Stay tuned to TIE.c for the latest!

Thanks to 'ob1al', 'Agent5', Club Obi-Wan Forums and RPF for bringing this to my attention!

Disney Celebrates Ten Years of Indiana Jones!
March 4th, 2005 | Posted by Aaron

As you probably know, Disneyland celebrated the 10th anniversary of their Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye adventure ride yesterday.  In celebration of the ten years of the Indiana Jones adventure, photographer Frank Anzalone from Mouseplanet.com did a very nice article looking back on the ride's grand opening on March 3rd, 1995:

"This attraction continues to be one of the most popular thrill rides at Disneyland. The technology has made it into other Disney attractions both at Disneyland and Walt Disney World (“Dinosaur Countdown to Extinction”). The attraction was designed with a huge queue line that was supposed to pull the waiting guests off the streets of Adventureland—anyone remember the line out to Main street when this first opened? Most times you just walk briskly past all this to get to the vehicle loading area and miss most of the great design details of the queue. It's too bad, since there was such care given to the detail of telling the story of this attraction before you ever get to the ride vehicle. This attraction seems to have held up mechanically very well for the first 10 years of operation. WDI did an awesome job in the research-and-development phase; the quality shows and it has paid off—giving many Disney guests a great experience during the past decade. I would expect this adventure to be running and just as exciting when I return to Disneyland to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2015."

I think a big thank you is required for Disney.  It is truly wonderful that they took the time to celebrate such a classic and beloved hero.  Be sure check out Mouseplanet.com to read the full article.

CareerBuilder.com Rates Indy's Job
March 1st, 2005 | Posted by Aaron

After asking 1,202 people, CareerBuilder.com has composted a list of the top seven careers held by our favorite movie characters who we have all sat and day-dreamed what life would be if we had their jobs.  The list includes cinema greats such as mob boss Don Vito Corleone, Jedi knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, secret agent James Bond, and none other than everyone's favorite whip cracking archaeologist, Indiana Jones!

6. Indiana Jones -- archaeologist and adventurer, "Raiders of the Lost Ark":

Indiana Jones' missions send him darting through caves, searching for treasures and barely escaping a giant rolling boulder. But the real life of an archaeologist isn't nearly so exciting.

Archaeologists study past human cultures by recovering and examining material evidence like ruins. Still interesting work, but if you're looking for dangerous submarine rides, be warned: according to the Princeton Review, you're more likely to "... carefully dust a fragment of a Mayan temple with a toothbrush or measure and examine thousands of tiny, nearly identical chipped stone axes."

And it is true, to be an real archaeologist you're most likely going to spend your time in the library, like Indy said, and X never, ever marks the spot, like Indy said as well.  Then again, Dr. Jones never did seem to follow to his own teachings, wouldn't be much of a movie if he did now would it?

Check out CNN.com for the full list!

Lucas Comments on the Indy 4 Script
March 1st, 2005 | Posted by Aaron

MTV.com posted some quotes from George Lucas today where Lucas commented on Star Wars and some of his future projects.  Here's what he had to say about Indiana Jones 4:

"We're working on scripts," Lucas says of a fourth "Indiana Jones" adventure, "but we're not going to do it until we get a script we're happy with."

When asked about Indy 4's plot, Lucas only said that it would be "A movie that moves forward, is entertaining, and has an interesting story to tell."

More of the same I'm afraid.  Throughout the years, Lucas has been adamant about the fact that Indiana Jones 4 will wait until they have a script that they all agree on and feel is worth to be made.  Of course with this comes the good and the bad.  The good: when Indy 4 DOES happen, it will be incredible.  The bad: we must wait, and wait we shall.

While Lucas hasn't revealed anything new or given much in the way of encouraging words of hope, at least he hasn't condemned the project or anything like that.  So keep your hopes up, and stay tuned to TIE.c for the latest!

Thanks to Eddie for the news!
