Raiders Guys Sign With Speaking Engagement Agency
March 31st, 2006| Posted by Aaron

Just got word from Chris Strompolos that he and Raiders: Adaptation co-creator Eric Zala have recently signed with the Lavin Agency, who books speakers at universities, colleges and corporations. The Lavin Agency reps other filmmakers such as Spike Lee and Joel Coen; authors such as John Updike and Isabel Allende; satirist including Al Franken, uber-producer Lynda Obst, and legendary musician, Bob Geldof.

Chris and Eric have signed with the Lavin Agency to pursue speaking engagements and screenings of their film Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation world wide. Jayson Lamb is currently on sabbatical from screenings (although he does occasionally join Chris and Eric on ones that particularly interest him). Jayson’s focus is on his new business as a photographer and multi-media artist. You can check out Jayson's amazing work at www.photograph-like-an-oil-painting.com.

You can check out the Lavin Agency website for a clip of the Raiders Guys' very first question and answer session in Austin, Texas, which coincided with the world premiere of The Adaptation in June of 2003. Just click on "View Video Sample" on the left-hand side of the page.

A big thanks and an even bigger congratulations to Chris and Eric!

More Indiana Jones 4 Talk from Harrison Ford
March 30th, 2006| Posted by Aaron

Time Out Film spoke with Harrison Ford about Indiana Jones 4 where Ford commented on the kind of story Indy 4 will be and stated that the latest script is something that everyone can get aboard with:

"Indiana Jones is going to be older and the story will therefore take place in a different historical period of time. We are not going back to World War II and the Nazis but I think that it will be relatively the same type of tale - George's special mix of Saturday matinee western serial and crypto-spiritual sort of stuff.

George is the one who generates these movies. Steven and I make them. We come on board after George has prescribed the territory.

Sometimes we don't agree and there was one script in particular that I didn't like so it was back to the drawing board. Now, after however many years, I'm delighted that we have something that we all have confidence in."

Nothing too terribly new, but I thought it was interesting how Ford described George Lucas' way of creating Indiana Jones using the classic serials of the 40's and "crypto-spiritual" elements. Stay tuned to TIE.c for the latest!

IGN Says Spielberg is Still Taking a Year Off...
March 17th, 2006| Posted by Aaron

IGN Filmforce posted an article today summarizing some of the recent Indy 4 news, and according to them and their "source", Steven Spielberg is indeed taking a year off from filmmaking despite Marvin Levy's previous statements.

"A high-level production source has confirmed for IGN FilmForce that, as was previously reported, Spielberg is indeed taking a year off, despite all the recent progress on the Indy IV front. Script revisions will continue, as will development on the Oscar winner's long-planned Abraham Lincoln project."

Now, since they didn't provide actual quotes or any indication as to who this "high-level" source is, we can only take this as pure rumor. We'll leave this up in the air for right now, but personally I'm inclined to go with Levy's statements since we know where that information came from, and it is indeed reliable. Let's just hope Spielberg won't be taking too much time off and production on Indiana Jones 4 can finally get rolling. Stay tuned to TIE.c for the latest!

Thanks to Israel for the news.

Marvin Levy Sheads Light on Indiana Jones 4's Status
March 15th, 2006| Posted by Aaron

In an interesting turn of events, Steven Spielberg's publicist, Marvin levy spoke with E! Online about Spielberg's upcoming projects including Indiana Jones 4, where he denied earlier reports that Spielberg was considering taking a year off from filmmaking:

"[The script] certainly seems to be [in the can], but I don't think we're at that point where we have a firm start date," Levy said. "But this is certainly the closest where we've been in this whole development process."

Levy also denied an earlier report that Spielberg was considering taking a year off after doing War of the Worlds and Munich back to back. He said the two-time Oscar winner is working not only on getting Indy 4 off the ground, but also Lincoln, his upcoming biopic on Abraham Lincoln that will reunite him with his Schindler's List star, Liam Neeson.

"I think it's much more likely that he will do an Indy movie before he does Lincoln. The Lincoln script is not as far in the development stage and...frankly Steven may not want to do another serious movie after doing a Munich," Levy said.

E! Online also added that Spielberg "would be starting something before 2007." And hopefully that something will be Indiana Jones 4. Well, if this is indeed all correct (and since this IS Spielberg's publicist) then things are certainly looking good for Indiana Jones 4. And since we never really had an actual quote from Spielberg saying that he was taking a year off from filmmaking, then I suppose that was never totally official. Certainly an interesting update. Stay tuned to The Indy Experience.com for more!

Ford Talks Briefly About the Indiana Jones 4 Script
March 15th, 2006| Posted by Aaron

Reuters.com reported today that Harrison Ford spoke with the German magazine Fit for Fun today about Indiana Jones 4, where Ford this to say:

"Steven Spielberg and I now have a script in hand that we both like. I believe that we can start with the filming soon,"

Ford also quipped that he will need "to do a little practicing with the whip" in order to get ready for the fourth Indiana Jones film. Now this may seem different from what we've been hearing recently since Spielberg has apparently taken a vacation from filmmaking and is taking time to work on the script with David Koepp in order to get a new draft that everyone can agree on. Then again, a lot can change in a week and since us fans are only privy to bits and pieces of information, all we can do is speculate during times like this.

And I've been meaning to comment on this: the Starpulse story that quoted an interview Ford did with Empire turned out to have exaggerated information. So the fears that might have been caused by that story should be put to rest as SpielbergFilms.com did some research into the matter.

So there you have it, optimism for Indy 4 once again. We can't get enough of it. Stay tuned as more pieces of the Indiana Jones 4 puzzle begin to roll in!

George Lucas Talks Indiana Jones 4
March 14th, 2006| Posted by Aaron

TIME.com posted an interview with George Lucas where they talked about various topics including Indiana Jones 4, where he spoke about his involvement with Indy 4 and about the issues of bringing Indy back to the big screen after so many years. Lucas also spoke about the issue of whether the fourth film will be shot using film or digitial. Overall, a very interesting interview, here's an excerpt:

TIME: If you’re retired, I guess you’ll be less involved with an Indiana Jones 4 than you were in the first three?

Lucas: Well, I’ve been working on Indy 4 for ten years. So I’ve been more involved, so no matter how you count it on this one I’ll be more involved than I’ll have ever been on the other three put together. It’s taken forever to get a script of it. That’s my part of it.

TIME: Isn’t Harrison Ford now older than Sean Connery was when he played his father in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade?

Lucas: Uhh, yeah. But the thing is designed for that. And I think it’s funny, it’s exciting. You know the problem there, which is not a problem, is that we don’t have to make that movie. All we can do is hurt ourselves, all it’s going to do is get criticized. I mean it’s basically Phantom Menace we’re making. No matter how you do it, no matter what you do, it won’t be what the other ones were in terms of the impact or the way people remember them.

TIME: But there’s also no need to complete the holes in the epic.

Lucas: We don’t have anything like that. We just had a great time making those movies. And if we can have a great time doing this one and we can enjoy ourselves, and make something that’s entertaining to us, no matter what the world thinks, let’s just do it.

TIME: But you also have to decide on the format, right?

Lucas: In terms of what?

TIME: Do you say, "Dammit, Steven, do it in digital," and he says, "Dammit, George, I’m doing it on film"?

Lucas: Pretty much.

TIME: Who wins?

Lucas: He’ll win. He’s the director. The great thing about working with Steven is that we don’t have agendas. We want to make the best movie possible, I want him to be happy. If he he wants to shoot it on film and cut it on a Movieola... Hey, he’s got a great editor. Michael Kahn can cut faster on a Movieola than anybody can cut on an Avid. And I don’t really care. But I do tell him, 'This is your chance to play with this and experiment with it and blame it all on me'—say, ‘He made me do it.’ And then you can go back to film if you want. But he has relented after all these years to maybe cutting it digitally. We’ll see what happens.

It's good to know that Lucas will concede to Spielberg as far as filming Indiana Jones 4 using the old fashioned 35mm. TIME also mentioned that Lucas is "also preparing a DVD release of the Young Indiana Jones TV series, with a one-hour documentary on the subject of each episode." Stay tuned to TIE.c for the latest!

Big thanks to Eddie for the letting me know.

McCallum Says Lucas Has Approved Indiana Jones 4 Script
March 14th, 2006| Posted by Aaron

Empire Online featured an interview with Producer Rick McCallum, where he talked about some of Lucasfilm's latest projects, including the new Star Wars television series and of course, Indiana Jones 4. Apparently, George Lucas has approved a draft of the Indy 4 screenplay and has sent it back to Spielberg for polishing. Here's the quote from McCallum:

"[George has] just finished the Indiana Jones script, and Steven’s having that rewritten and a few things done."

Although McCallum didn't speak of David Koepp directly, we can assume that Lucas has sent the script back to Spielberg who is now working with Koepp to polish off the script. Hopefully the pieces will fall into place soon enough. Even though Spielberg has said he is taking a year off from filmmaking, progress is still being made on Indiana Jones 4, which is welcomed news. Stay tuned for the latest!

Ford Talks Briefly About the Indy 4 Script
March 9th, 2006| Posted by Aaron

Starpulse posted a quote from a recent interview that Empire magazine conducted with Harrison Ford, where he spoke of the troubles that have surrounded the Indiana Jones 4 script:

"If you find out when it's starting, let me know. The reason it hasn't happened yet is we haven't had a good enough script. (Is the) script ready? I think that was a different script... it looms. (M. Night Shyamalan was writing the script) and I think we lost him through the failure of George and Steven to attend to him, which is a real shame."

Now, the site that posted this quote didn't indicate when this interview was conducted, so we're not sure if this was before or after Spielberg's recent comments about Koepp taking on the job of rewriting the script. If you have any information at all about this interview, please email us; your help would be greatly appreciated.

It's pretty much the same, folks. The script has been the one thing (understandably) that has held back the fourth film from going in front of the camera. Hopefully an agreement can be reached soon enough. We'll keep you updated on the latest.

Thanks to Eddie for the link.

Marshall Talks Indiana Jones 4
March 9th, 2006| Posted by Aaron

Producer Frank Marshall spoke with MTV.com about the upcoming projects he will be involved in, including Jurassic Park 4 and of course Indiana Jones 4:

"'Jurassic Park 4' is coming to life. There's a script, we're getting a director and we're going to get going probably toward the end of this year. Joe Johnston could be back. We want to get the script right before we go forward, which is exactly what's [happening with what] your next question is going to be about, 'Indy 4.'"

"We're getting the script right, we're working on it. It's not one of those things that's on the back burner." Grinning, Marshall added that he might try to get both films made by simply combining them. "Indiana Jones goes to the island," he said. "Indy versus the raptors. Get him with that whip."

It's good to hear some confidence concerning Indiana Jones 4 for a change. Even though we already know about the script rewrites in the works (currently being tackled by David Koepp, in case you've been out of it for the past few days) Marshall's reassurance comment that Indy 4 hasn't taken a back seat is a good sign that hope is certainly not lost for the fourth installment. Stay tuned for the latest!

Thanks to Eddie for the news.

What's Up With Indiana Jones 4?
March 8th, 2006| Posted by Aaron

With these recent comments from Steven Spielberg that have brought an uneasy vibe to the Indiana Jones community, I'd like to take a minute to summarize what seems to have changed concerning Indiana Jones 4. Last month, fans were gearing up for Indiana Jones 4, especially with Harrison Ford giving us almost daily quotes about the project, stating that "We're closer than we've ever been." But all that seemed to come to an abrupt stop last weekend after the Oscars when Steven Spielberg announced he will be taking a year off from filmmaking after working over-time in 2005. This was quite a deviation from the summer of 2006 start date for Indy 4 we were anticipating.

Last month, Spielberg stated that "we have a script there's a degree of agreement on," and now Spielberg has announced that David Koepp will be working with him to polish off the Indy 4 script since Lucas wasn't completely happy with the last draft. One may have predicted a script touch-up after that "degree of agreement" comment. Hopefully Koepp will be able to turn in something that Lucas will approve and everyone else can agree on. So far this Indy 4 script has gone from Frank Darabont, to George Lucas and Jeff Nathanson for rewrites, and now to David Koepp for more rewrites. The goal all along has been to do it right, or not do it at all. We can all appreciate this mentality, but if rewrites continue it will eventually be too late. Plain and simple.

Adding another piece to the puzzle, SpielbergFilms.com posted a comprehensive review of the recent developments surrounding Indiana Jones 4 and in it, they included quotes from Spielberg in an interview he did with E! news: "I'm not gonna say anything [about 'Indy 4'] because my boss, Mr. Lucas, will, you know, have my head... Indy 4 hopefully will happen...someday...." Now it's clear that Spielberg was joking about that first part, however that last comment certainly put a damper on our excitement. Quite a change from last month when Spielberg said, "I am about to make 'Indiana Jones 4'". Seems as though Spielberg's enthusasim has taken a hit.

So, what's next? Fact is, there's not much of an answer to be had; chances are nobody knows for sure right now. For a while there, it seemed as though the stars had finally aligned: Ford's schedule was clearing up when it was announced that Godspeed had been canceled, Spielberg's schedule was clearing up with his Lincoln bio pic put on hold, and they appeared to have a screenplay that everyone was fairly happy with. It looked as though all systems were go for production to begin this summer, but now that's changed as more rewrites seem to be the only progress being made on the project, but at least it's something.

The bottom line is, Indiana Jones 4 will happen when it happens, if it does at all. I know a lot of you look at this and think it's pretty bleak, but I'm going to remain optimistic and I encourage you to do the same as well. Right now, Indy 4 is delayed, but it's not a lost cause, not by a long shot. No one has put a hammer to the idea; it's still alive. As it stands now, production most likely won't begin this year unless Spielberg decides to go back to work early, so we won't see Indy in theatres in 2007. Is 2008 our next chance at redemption? We'll have to wait and see. When dealing with Indiana Jones 4, you can never know what to expect. All I can say for sure is hang in there, folks; we'll be here every step of the way.

More Indiana Jones 4 Talk from Spielberg...
March 7th, 2006| Posted by Aaron

The Chicago Sun-Times posted a special article on the Oscars today, where they spoke with some of the biggest names on the guest list, including Steven Spielberg. They asked him about his upcoming work and here's what he had to say:

"...there definitely will be a 'Jurassic Park 4,' and I'm pretty sure we'll be doing an 'Indiana Jones 4,' but I can't confirm that -- that's up to my boss, George Lucas. ... He still is not completely happy with the script, so I can't say more about that until he gives it his OK."

So, Lucas isn't happy with the script... again? This seems like a big change in attitude from last month. Is Spielberg being sincere or is he just dodging the question? Seems as though something has changed behind the scenes nevertheless, but then again nothing was very clear to begin with. And that's the way Indiana Jones 4 has been for years. Nothing definite can be said, though we've come pretty close in recent months. All we fans can do is continue the waiting game and hope for the best. That's all the news for now, so take it for what you will and keep it here for the latest.

Thanks to Eddie for the link.

Steven Spielberg Says He's Taking a Year Off
March 6th, 2006| Posted by Aaron

Roger Friedman of FOXNews.com spoke with Steven Spielberg last night during the Governor's Ball after the Oscars. Spielberg's latest film, Munich was up for two Oscars, Best Director and Best Picture - neither of which it won. According to the article, "director Steven Spielberg will take a year off from moviemaking..." But considering he did two films in one year, he most certainly deserves it. What does this mean for Indiana Jones 4? Well it certainly means it won't be out in 2007 most likely, but it's not out of the picture. Here's more of what Spielberg had to say:

Roger Friedman: "George Lucas told me recently that there’s a script and he’s happy with the story."

Spielberg: "George Lucas isn’t the director. I am. I have David Koepp on it now, and he's my 'closer,'" Spielberg said, using a baseball reference to the pitcher who comes in during the 9th inning and finishes up a winning ball game. "He wrote 'Spider-Man' and 'War of the Worlds,'" Spielberg said, "so he'll get it done."

I guess by "he'll get it done" he means, Koepp will polish off the script before they begin shooting. Well, this has certainly put the breaks on our speeding tank, but has it gone off the cliff yet? No, not at all. Just because Spielberg's taking a vacation doesn't mean Indiana Jones 4 is kaput. The project is still alive, just not as hot and heavy as it was earlier. Stay tuned to TIE.c for the latest, we'll be here all the way 'till the end.

Big thanks to Eddie for the news!
