UPDATE: Spielberg Down Under Rumor Debunked
May 26th, 2006| Posted by Aaron
UPDATE: SpielbergFilms.com got word from Spielberg's office that this rumor is completely false. Marvin Levy of DreamWorks told SpielbergFilms that Mr. Spielberg was in Japan and has now returned home, but is not currently filming anything. So much for that. For the record, here's the original story we posted yesterday:
NEWS.com.au reported that Steven Spielberg is filming a "secret action project" on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. Here's the info from the article:
Steven Spielberg is understood to be on the Gold Coast filming a secret action project. The shoot is at an island location, with the director believed to be staying at the Palazzo Versace hotel.
Spielberg's presence went largely undetected until he popped into a Surfers Paradise clothing store this week to buy a $220 jacket.
"They're filming at night and it gets really cold," said Gloria Ayoub, who served him at the Nautica store at the Marina Mirage complex on Sunday."
He wanted a big jacket ... I told him to go down two sizes because it would be warmer but he likes them big."
Could this be Indiana Jones 4? No way to know at this point, but it could be a good sign. However, as the article points out, Spielberg has several other up-coming titles with his name on it that he could be working on instead, including When Worlds Collide and The Pacific War mini-series. We'll just have to wait and see what Spielberg is really up to. Stay tuned!
Thanks to Eddie for the link.
My thanks go to Steven from SpielbergFilms.com for letting me know.

New Indiana Jones 2007 Preview and Video!
May 17th, 2006| Posted by Aaron
The fun never stops as we have yet another Indiana Jones 2007 preview, with more video this time! Next Level Gaming has posted their own preview of the new Indy game, going over the basics such as the technology LucasArts is putting into the game, but more importantly they include video from the demos shown at E3! They have the videos of Indy fighting thugs on the street and on the cable car, and they also have a clip of the PS3 demo LucasArts had with Indy standing on an old rope bridge (similar to the one in Temple of Doom) being pounded with rocks in order to show off what Euphoria can do.
All very impressive video, so be sure to check out Next Level Gaming for a full review of the demos shown at E3, and for new video of Indiana Jones 2007.

Two New Indiana Jones 2007 Game Clips!
May 14th, 2006| Posted by AaronGame
Trailers.com has posted two new video clips of the next-generation Indiana Jones video game from E3. The first is the demo of the cable car fight shown by LucasArts at E3 that we've heard so much about, and the second is an interview with David Collins, Sound Designer/Voice Director from LucasArts, who talks about the next-generation technology being used in the new Indy game, and also shows some very cool clips from the game.
Indiana Jones 2007 Demo - This is the demo of the new Indy game that has had everyone talking, and it looks very impressive to say the least. Granted, some of the AI mechanics looks a little ragdoll-ish, but if what we're seeing is in-game footage then we're in for one heck of an experience. All of the praise around Euphoria that we've been hearing is true. Each one of these thugs that Indy goes up against has a mind of its own and it shows when they go hand-to-hand with Dr. Jones. And interestingly enough if you look closely near the end of the video clip, you can see a bad guy get struck by one of the trucks on the street, which sends him flying through the air; looks pretty sweet.
Interview with David Collins - In this clip, we get a look at the booth LucasArts had set up at E3, which came complete with the Chinatown motif with a cable car as the centerpiece with Indy standing on top just like in the game. In the interview, LucasArts Sound Designer and Voice Director, David Collins goes over the technology in the new Indy game, promising a version of the game for not only Xbox 360 and PS3, but for PS2, Nintendo DS and Sony PSP. The game clips shown by Collins in the interview give you a look at the Digital Molecular Matter that is used to give all the materials of the locations in the game a real-world aspect. In other words, it's what makes the wood break and splinter
realistically
when Indy tosses a bad guy into a door. In one of the clips shown during the interview, we see Indy tossing a bad guy onto a barrel filled with fireworks, which starts a chain-reaction that leads to total chaos. It's rather fun to watch these AI baddies try to hang on for dear life with all the destruction going on around them. The interview also includes some very tantalizing concept artwork that will leave you dreaming of the possibilities.
Overall, what we are seeing is very impressive, especially considering that this is a very early look at a game that's not even half-way finished. We have a lot to look forward to, folks! Stay tuned to The Indy Experience.com for the most up-to-date coverage of the next-generation Indiana Jones game, coming in 2007. Spielberg Taking a "Wait-and-See" Stance on Indy 4?
May 14th, 2006| Posted by Aaron
Variety.com posted an article about George Lucas' empire of money-making franchises, where they ended their story with the following paragraph that brings some question of whether or not recent reports are 100% accurage:
"There's also that other little franchise Lucas is a part of: Indiana Jones. A long-gestating fourth installment is still on the radar. But even Steven Spielberg, Lucas' partner on the action series, is taking a wait-and-see view. The helmer says the notoriously picky Lucas continues to nix drafts of the fourth Indy script."
Of course, none of this comes with any actual quotes from either George Lucas or Steven Spielberg, so who knows? I hate it when they do that. This report from Variety conflicts with the information gathered from an interview Lucas did with MTV last week, where Lucas stated that the script for Indiana Jones 4 was finished and could begin filming this year. When will the uncertainty be lifted from this long-awaited film? Stay tuned to find out... some day.

Two New Indy 2007 Previews Online
May 12th, 2006| Posted by Aaron
GameSpy and GameSpot have both released their own previews of the next-generation Indiana Jones game from E3. Nothing majorly new, but it's worth pointing out. Here's an excerpt from GameSpot's preview:
"We did see a whole bunch about Euphoria, though. The first part of the demo opened with Indy battling a bunch of thugs in a back alley of San Francisco's Chinatown. Initially, he dropped the first enemy with his whip by disarming the man's gun and then pulling his leg out from under him. But after that, we saw the Euphoria system in action when Indy threw the guy into a car, and the enemy used the bumper of the car to catch himself. Later, Indy set off a store of fireworks that blew apart a catwalk that an enemy was standing on, and this character barely managed to grab onto the edge of the catwalk and hang on for a second before falling to his death. None of these actions will be pre-scripted; they'll all happen based on a character's orientation in the environment, and even the exact same action performed multiple times will often produce different results."
And here's an excerpt from GameSpy's preview of the new Indy game:
"Since the game is so far off, the developers used the demo primarily to point out some of the impressive new technologies powering it. Echoing the all-too-popular mantra that they "want to change the way that games are played," LucasArts has developed a style of artificial intelligence that they are calling "behavioral AI." This (supposedly) means that your enemies will act differently every time you butt heads with them, and the developers mentioned that they'll "learn" to behave like actual people. In one sequence that we watched, an enemy flailed helplessly as he fell from a fire escape, barely saving himself when he grabbed a pipe. The next time out, he missed the pipe and fell to his death, although one of his buddies that died the first time escaped unscathed."
The idea of AI characters learning is pretty cool, making this game even more dynamic. GameSpy also added that "[p]retty much all of the combat we saw was of the hand-to-hand variety, although we wouldn't be at all surprised to see Indy's bullwhip or pistol make an appearance (or maybe the Ark of the Covenant?)."
Not sure if they're just speculating or are basing that Ark of the Covenant comment on a hint given by LucasArts at the E3 demo. But doesn't the idea of breaking into the Government Warehouse in search of the Ark among thousands of crates make you drool? Of course I'm just dreaming, but who knows? There's no telling what LucasArts has planned for us, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Indy 4 Script is Finished & Will "Probably" Film Next Year!
May 11th, 2006| Posted by Aaron
George Lucas spoke with MTV about various topics including Star Wars and of course Indiana Jones 4 where the bearded one gave some VERY encouraging (and as always, vague) remarks about the film's status, stating that the script is finished and that Indy 4 could go into production next year. Here's an excerpt from the article:
Contrary to how Hollywood usually hypes its blockbusters, the writer/producer says Indiana Jones' next adventure actually won't be any louder, bigger or faster than his last one. In fact, if Lucas gets his way (hint: he usually does), the Jones sequel will prize dialogue over decibels.
"I think Tom Cruise proved that people are getting bored with that kind of stuff," Lucas said Monday at a Jazz at Lincoln Center dinner celebrating Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people (see "Diddy, Daddy Yankee, Angelina Jolie Rub Elbows With Bush On Time List"). "What they want to see is something different. And 'Indiana Jones,' if nothing else, is always different."And Lucas is, if nothing else, reliably vague. He's not yet ready to give up the treasure trove of what lurks in the plot for the first "Indiana Jones" movie since 1989's "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," except to say the script is finally done and the flick will "probably" start shooting next year."We're working on it, we're working on it," Lucas said. "We've been working on it for 10 years. I think it'll be a great film, but it's completely different. It's still got a lot of action, and it's still very funny. I think it works like crazy."
Good to know that there is more concentration on the dialogue than just nothing but eye-candy. Let's just hope this thing gets into production next year. Here's hoping for the best!

IGN Gets a First Look at the New Indiana Jones Game!
May 10th, 2006| Posted by Aaron
IGN has posted a wonderful three-page article about the next-generation Indiana Jones game that was shown to a select few at a private demo at E3. After reading this preview, it's clear that LucasArts has taken gaming to the max and has truly defined next-generation. It's a whole new world we're entering into, and here's an excerpt from IGN's article:
"At this point, they've engineered the technology to make it run, and they've ironed out the story. But there's little in terms of specifics. And speaking of story, it does in fact tie into the upcoming movie. Developers said George Lucas gave them a chunk of the script for use in the game. But in terms of how many missions it'll have or exactly what kinds of puzzles and obstacles to expect, developers just aren't saying yet. What they have said is that it will include everything fans have come to expect, including plenty of brawling, lethal traps, artifacts and moments of death-defying coolness. To prove the point, Lucasarts demoed its Indiana Jones at a private event in San Francisco. And sorry, there's no official title so no one hoping for hints on the upcoming film will get any. For now, it's only known as Indian Jones. Not that it matters. At its current state, the technology behind it is so impressive, you could call it Indiana's Fairy Princess Adventure and it wouldn't deter interest in the slightest. And by "current state," you should understand the game is more than a year away from completion. As such, developers have only finished a small portion of the actual game. As absurd as it sounds, though, the technology behind the game is what's truly exciting. And it's so for a very simple reason: it just hasn't been used before now. But after watching a 40-minute demonstration, it's abundantly clear it has the potential to change the way you play games. All of this may sound like obscene hype. It may be. But If Lucasarts winds up meeting its goals and delivers exactly what they want when Indiana Jones ships, then it's not hype; it's simple honesty."
IGN then went into detail about the next-generation technology that will be driving this remarkable experience in the new Indy game. It looks as though this new Indy game will in many respects be leading the way in gaming technology. The more and more we learn about this game, the better and better it gets! Not to mention the returning characters and the tie-in with Indiana Jones 4. It's been said about a lot of the other Indy games in the past, but this new next-generation Indiana Jones game has a great deal of potential of being the best Indy game of all time. And let's hope LucasArts can pull it off. IGN also posted a total of eleven hi-res screenshots from the Indiana Jones preview, and they look spectacular.
And be sure to visit IGN.com to check out the full article, it's a must-read!
LucasArts Gives Fans a First Look at Next-Gen Indy!
May 10th, 2006| Posted by Aaron
LucasArts has released the first look at the next-generation Indiana Jones video game (Indiana Jones 2007 is the working title), and it is impressive... most impressive! The first look includes ten screenshots from the new Indy game and a trailer. The screenshots show Indy in San Francisco fighting some baddies in the streets and atop a cable car. The trailer is fashioned after the old newsreels of the 1930s and 40s with a look at the LucasArts "labs" where new technology is being developed for the next-generation of video gaming. The trailer includes about a minute and a half of game footage from the new Indy adventure, including shots of Indy whipping a gun from the hand of a bad guy, firing his revolver to set off explosions and lots and lots of good ol' fashioned Indy fighting action. The scenes in the trailer appear to be in-game but we haven't confirmed that yet. If this is indeed in-game footage, then we have one heck of a ride to look forward to! Here are a few screenshots from LucasArts:

The trailer really gives you an idea s to what DMM, Hot Set and euphoria have to offer by showing Indy throwing bad guys into cars multiple times (with never the same animation) and into fruit stands (with plenty of wood splinters). And as always, LucasArts has succeeded once again in capturing the look of Indiana Jones with his gear, which looks to be the most accurate of all the video game Indy's throughout LucasArts' history. 2007 is looking very, very exciting! Visit LucasArts to check out the full trailer and more screenshots, and stay tuned to TIE.c for continuing coverage!
More Info on the Tech Behind the Next Indy Game!
May 9th, 2006| Posted by Aaron
LucasArts has released yet another press release concerning the new Indiana Jones video game, this time centering around the brand new "Digital Molecular Matter" technology (aka "DMM") that we first heard about yesterday:
LUCASARTS AND PIXELUX REDEFINE ENVIRONMENTAL REALISM FOR NEXT-GENERATION INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENTExclusive Digital Molecular Matter technology makes every structure in every game world react exactly as it would in real life
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – May 8, 2006 – LucasArts announced today that it has partnered with Pixelux Entertainment Inc. to include revolutionary Digital Molecular Matter (DMM) technology into all internal titles currently in development for next-generation video game consoles. DMM is exclusive to LucasArts beginning with Indiana Jones® 2007 [working title] and continuing with the next Star Wars® experience. This breakthrough in material physics will bring an unprecedented level of realism to next-gen projects by making completely interactive environments that react as they would in real life. From crumbling walls to shattering glass and even swaying organic plant life, in-game objects have material properties that behave realistically all in real time. If a structure exists – big or small, dense or thin, floppy or rigid – DMM causes it to react in the same way dictated by reality. For example, unlike what you’d see in current-gen games, wood doesn’t simply break apart along a predetermined seam every time – rather, it splinters into countless pieces from the exact point of impact, also taking into account the amount of sheer force exerted. The same rules apply to any substance imaginable: Rubber bends and snaps back into place. Glass shatters. Crystal fractures. Stone crumbles. Carbonite (yes, the very alloy that encased Han Solo) dents. With DMM in action, a Jedi unleashes the Force like never before. His violent Force push hurtles a helpless stormtrooper through a stone column, blasting it apart. Moments later, the sudden lack of support causes the building to smash to the ground, piece by piece. Meanwhile, a virtual Jabba the Hutt presides over his court, as rolls of gelatinous fat bounce and jiggle thanks to a body composed of DMM. "Pixelux has been a fantastic partner in our effort to bring true next-generation gameplay to these new consoles," said Peter Hirschmann, vice president of product development at LucasArts. "Digital Molecular Matter enables us to deliver game worlds that feel truly dynamic and alive – we can pack in dramatically more gameplay per square foot than was ever possible with earlier hardware generations.""When it comes to unlocking the potential of DMM – a technology that many engineers believe is still 10 to 15 years away – it's hard to beat opportunities like next-gen Indiana Jones and Star Wars," said Vik Sohal, chief operating officer at Pixelux. "Partnering with LucasArts is the perfect way to introduce DMM to the gaming public."
LucasArts will demonstrate DMM during a behind-closed-doors tech demo set in a galaxy far, far away on May 10-12 at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles, CA.
It just keeps getting better and better. Not only is this the kind of realism we can expect to see in the new Indy game, it's also an example as to what kind of gameplay we can look forward to becoming the standard for video gaming. Very exciting times on the horizon. Stay tuned! Big thanks to Eddie for the press release!
LucasArts Spills More of the Beans on the New Indy Game!
May 8th, 2006| Posted by Aaron
LucasArts has released even more information of the new Indiana Jones video game for next-generation consoles set for release sometime in 2007. In this new press release from E3, LucasArts reveals just how cutting-edge and (for lack of a better word) awesome this new Indy game adventure will be:
Indiana Jones® 2007 [working title]
Indiana Jones returns in 2007 for his most incredible interactive expedition ever. Set in 1939, this epic, original story – written for the first time under the direction of George Lucas – puts you in the fedora of the legendary adventure hero as he unravels the clues found in ancient artifacts spanning the globe. From San Francisco’s Chinatown to the world’s most sacred ground, Indy must use his fists, whip and trusty revolver to fight through ruthless opposition and piece together a mystery of biblical proportions. Indiana Jones 2007 is LucasArts’ first internally developed project for PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and it also represents the first collaboration of talents and technology between LucasArts and Industrial Light & Magic, two companies now finally under one roof at the new Letterman Digital Arts Center in San Francisco’s Presidio district.Indiana Jones 2007 debuts the revolutionary new euphoria technology from NaturalMotion, which delivers never-before-seen lifelike action and awareness to every character in real time – so you’ll never see the same thing twice. For the first time ever, euphoria enables interactive characters to move, act and even think like actual human beings, adapting their behavior on the fly and resulting in a different payoff every single time. This next-gen technology imbues Indy and his opponents with unparalleled environmental awareness and survival instincts. They’ll stumble, then attempt to maintain their balance; brace themselves for falls, then get back up; and reach for nearby ledges when falling. Each action results in an authentic, varied performance every time.Complementing euphoria will be Pixelux Entertainment’s Digital Molecular Matter (DMM) technology, which brings a level of realism to next-gen games never seen before by making completely interactive environments that react as they would in real life. From crumbling walls to shattering glass and even swaying organic plant life, in-game objects have material properties that behave realistically all in real time.
Indiana Jones 2007 also features completely interactive Hot Set™ environments, where every setting is open-ended and completely destructible in a way that only next-generation consoles can deliver. Use your wits and daring to make each spring-loaded environment a weapon as you dispense of foes in clever and unexpected ways. Also, embark upon thrilling chase sequences that remain true to the spirit established in scenes such as Indy’s pursuit of the motorcade in Raiders of the Lost Ark, the mine-cart scene in The Temple of Doom, and the free-for-all aboard the tank in The Last Crusade. Face Indy off against a devious longtime rival, reunite him with old friends, and meet more of his most trusted allies throughout the world.
I think the best way to describe my current mood is "giddy as a school boy". Yep, that about says it. Now we know when it's set (1939 - perfect year) and that there is promise of familiar faces and a longtime rival (but who?). And just when you thought this new euphoria dealie was good enough, LucasArts springs two more new video game technologies (the "Digital Molecular Matter" technology and the "Hot Set" environments). All the more to make this new game the most exciting and promising Indy game LucasArts has announced. Personally, I can't wait. So stay tuned to TIE.c for the latest; we're all over it.
HUGE thanks to Eddie for letting me know!
Marshall Talks Indiana Jones 4
May 1st, 2006| Posted by Aaron
Producer Frank Marshall spoke with Empire about his latest work, including, you guessed it, Indiana Jones 4:
So what’s the next exotic place that Indy 4’s gonna go to?
The next exotic I’m gonna be in is London! Indy 4 is probably going to shoot next year, all around the world again. We’re writing the script, it’s coming along, and I think it’s on a very positive track.
So what’s the angle going to be in the story this time?
Oh, I can’t tell you that!
Oh go on….
I can tell you it’s going to be about 10 years later, it’ll be in the 50s, so obviously Indy will be older, so Harrison will be able to play the role, but other than that my lips are sealed.
You’ve done the Sahara now, I suppose; any other deserts that we can see…?
There might be a desert involved, yeah, but which one I can’t tell you.
Well, it certainly is reassuring that Indy will be doing some real life globetrotting instead of everything being done on a sound stage or even (God forbid) a blue screen. A desert, eh? We've got a lot of those. But hey, you can't get enough them. There you have it folks, a location for Indiana Jones 4 has possibly been revealed (sort of): a desert! Stay tuned for the latest.
Thanks to Eddie for the tip!
