Review of the Indy DVDs by Indiana Gater
Review of the Indiana Jones DVDs by 'Indiana Gater':
October 7th, 2003
Please allow me to confirm that through a source in the entertainment industry, I recently had the opportunity to view the Bonus Material DVD that will be available with the Indiana Jones Trilogy Box Set. Although the DVD does not have an individual section for Deleted Scenes, the Making Of documentaries do contain never-before-seen footage. As example, there is video of Sallah about to be executed by a young Nazi, and the kiss between Marion and Indy at the Raven Bar. Until now, this has been seen (mostly) as a still, and not in video format. Interviews specifically made for the DVD's tell of how the actors came to land their roles. the 'Making of Raiders' also features the screen test of Tom Selleck and Sean Young. Selleck is rather angry and yells a lot and tells Marion to 'Shut Up'. A different take to the apologetic demeanor of Harrison's Indy/Marion reunion. Other interesting interviews and revelations include mention of Herbert Johnson as the supplier for the Fedora, and how the costume designer distressed the hat on the night before filming began.
The box itself is a light brown, apparently made to simulate distressed leather. The back of the box has a faded rendering of Indy from the Last Crusade poster. See photos included.
I must say that this material is a MUST HAVE for any Indiana Jones fan, or any DVD aficionado. I currently have a VHS copy of the Bonus Material disk, and have enjoyed it immensely. It is my humble opinion that no one will be disappointed by these disks.
As I did not view the movies themselves, (had to save SOMETHING for the 21st!) I cannot comment, although my 'insider' tells me that the sound and quality was crisp and fresh and looked like it was filmed yesterday.
That's just my opinion, and you're entitled to it.
