Archaeology plays a major role in the adventures of Indiana Jones, both as Indy's profession and the source of his quests. Throughout the films, books, and various other stories about our favorite hero, Indy has gone in search of some of the most famous archaeological artifacts in history. Though Steven Spielberg and George Lucas added their own take on these treasures, the truth behind many of the Indiana Jones artifacts is often stranger than fiction. This section of our research will be dedicated to the true stories behind the archaeological legends from the Indiana Jones adventures, giving an historical and scientific look at each of the artifacts Indy went in search of throughout his life.
